The WL-JB is another Craft Series model that offers a professional grade instrument at an affordable price. It has the same functionality as the Woodline DX passive model, but costs less due to mid range hardware and imported materials rather than the hand sourced light ash used in the Hand Made DX range. This instrument is still hand made in Japan at the ASKA plant, and the neck and fret board feel just the same as the DX. wonderful! BODY:ASH NECK:AMERICAN HARD MAPLE FINGER BOARD:INDIAN ROSEWOOD RADIUS:340R SCALE:34inch MACHINE HEADS:GOTOH GB1 WIDTH AT KNUT:46mm BRIDGE:GOTOH 205B-5 PICK UP:BACCHUS ORIGINAL CONTROLS:2Vol,1Tone(Pull up Turbo SW) My Review. I think I like this almost as much as the woodline DX apart from the body construction and weight being heavier. The body being three piece construction is not quite as resonant and the bridge does not offer the string through option, however, for a passive Jazz bass around the $1000 mark, this truly kicks ass! I love the neck and fretboard on this, it is nice and rugged and feels consistent with the rest of the range and also the DX range too. The hardware looks stylish in black and functions perfectly well, the pearloid scratch plate matches the block inlays and trim nicely, and the headstock matches body color. A good looking instrument, not to mention good sounding too. 9/10 You can buy this instrument direct with shipping included in the price, it'll ship tracked and insured with in just about 1 week with EMS to anywhere in the world except South America and Africa which cost an extra $60 to ship from Japan.
The Craft Series represents cost effective hand made instruments that use imported materials and mid range Gotoh hardware. The results are incredible instruments that compete with rivals in higher price ranges. I personally prefer some of the craft series to the DX series for example this one in my opinion is almost as good as the DX5AC, it's just the pre-amp is not a bartolini xtct and it is also not as light. 1 piece Maple neck 34" scale. Fret Board: Rosewood / Maple with perloid block inlays, twenty one frets Body: 3 piece Ash Bridge: Gotoh GB203 Machine Heads:Gotoh GB1 Pre amp: Aguilar OBP2 Pick Ups- Bacchus Original Controls, volume, balance treble, mid notch boost, bass notch boost passive / active switch. My review This is a superb bass, the neck feels almost the same as the higher priced Woodlline DX's and is just as rugged, holding action and tuning impressively well. I had the action down to around 1.5mm and it played beautifully. I love the sound of the Aguilar, not so sure if I like the bartolini or this better, it's hard to tell....they both have unique characteristics that I like....best to have one of each probably, but anyway I digress... I simply love the way this bass looks too, it reminds me of the old Bacchus Strong, which was by and large one of the best basses they ever made (which also fetched a fairly high price in it's day), with it's stylized Jazz body and the 5 dials placement not to mention the beautiful lacquer finish and smart black hardware. It just is so stylish, and the pick guard shape to is way cool! I love it, but I prefer the TF ASH over all so this one I gotta give 9/10 Buy this model direct below, ships insured and tracked globally with EMS Japan.
The Craft Series represents cost effective hand made instruments that use imported materials and mid range Gotoh hardware. The results are incredible instruments that compete with rivals in higher price ranges. I personally prefer some of the craft series to the DX series for example this one.... The TF ASH is the Craft Series version of the Bacchus high end flagship bass the Twentyfour DX. It has almost the same functionality as it's higher end cousin but uses slightly lower grade hardware and has an Aguilar OB2 preamp, not a Bartolini XTCT. 1 piece Maple neck 34" scale. Fret Board: Rosewood with perloid dot inlays / Maple with black acrylic dots, twenty four frets Body: 2 / 3 piece Ash Bridge: Gotoh GB203 Macine Heads:Gotoh GB1 Pre amp: Aguilar OBP2 Pick ups- Bacchus Original Humbuckers Controls, volume, balance treble, mid notch boost, bass notch boost. My Review. This is by far the best bass for my money, although the preamp and pick-ups are not as versatile as the Bartolini XTCT on the DX twenty four, it still competes, and in my opinion has a better neck profile. The neck is superb, straight as an arrow with a very smooth action. I achieved about 1.5mm action on this and it has held the tuning and action very well despite temperate change. The preamp and humbuckers provide for a good array of tone and you can get that really nice honk on the bridge pick-up. The hardware does it's job reliably and looks very cool in black.... The small body and light weight make this really comfortable to use. 10/10 on price point. The DX twenty four is the top of the current Bacchus handmade range and features some impressive spec. 1 piece maple neck 24 fret 34" scale ebony / maple board with bone or rosewood dot inlays. two piece light ash body dual humbuckers powered by a Bartolini XTCT preamp with coiltap and passive on / off toggles Main volume, notched balance, 3 band equalizer with cut, notch and boost. High end gotoh hardware in chrome on the standard versions Tuning heads Gotoh GB11W Bridge Gotoh 404SJ in chrome or black and gold on the BGP version. Width at nut. 4.3 4string / 4.6 5 string String spacing. 20mm on 4 string / 18mm on 5 string. My review This instrument has excellent tonal range as you get the full punch of the humbuckers and you can pan them how you want! you can get that real honk with the bridge p-up or a meaty deep rich tone from the neck p-up. If you use the coil tap you can get a regular Jazz configuration too! All you could possibly need tonally. The neck is not my favorite in the Bacchus range, but it is nicely made and the 24th fret is easily accessed due to the compact and streamlined body shape. The circuitry is very quiet thanks to good shielding and is absolutely noiseless in humbucking mode. I love the sound of this thing, but I prefer the neck on the Woodlines.....that's just my personal preference though. 9/10 in my view. You can buy the 4 or 5 string version Factory Direct below. We also have the BGP version too, with the handsome black and gold hardware!!!! Shipping is included in all prices! Coming in passive or active versions the Woodline DX offers a sturdy 34" one piece maple neck with 21 frets trimmed in stylish pearloid to complement the pearloid block inlays. The body is two piece light ash and comes in a variety of colors as depicted above. The pick ups are custom shop JB-ALVs which feature hum cancelling, are hand wound and well shielded The controls are vol, balance (notched on active model), main tone and boost (passive version)/ mid-treb eq and bass eq both with cut-notch-boost settings. The active version sports a Bartolini XTCT Pre-amp. Hard ware is high end gotoh GB11W heads and the 404SJ bridge which has string through capability, in standard chrome for the standard models, but the Woodline DX BGP has black and gold hardware as you can see in the video at the bottom of this page. My Review This bass is the best seller in the range mostly because of it's sturdy rugged neck, it's classic stylish looks, and fairly light weight body. I own both a passive and active version, one with a maple board and the other with ebony. I have to say I prefer the maple board but the active circuitry. The bass plays very easily and achieves an action of 1.5mm without any issues. The tonal range is diverse enough to satisfy a seasoned pro and in my opinion for the money, this is the best Jazz bass on the market in Japan. It compares with Moons or Atelier Z's that fetch nearly twice the price! Full marks for the active version and 9/10 for the passive. On top of that the quiet circuitry makes for clean recordings and the fretboard is simply one of the best you will find in Japanese basses.
